In the quarterfinals of the 1st masters snooker nationals held in Chennai. Former Asian champion Alok Kumar made it to the semi final by defeating Siddharth Rao of Tamil Nadu 3-1. Alok started off confidently as he scored well in the chances that he got and secured the first frame. Rao came back strong in the second frame and made abreak of 68 to level it at 1-1. In the third frame, Alok wasn’t deterred as clinched the third frame 2-1. In the fourth frame, Alok was trailing by nearly 40 points and he made an excellent snooker in a crucial stage, Rao struggled to get close to a red and gave away nearly 10 fouls which brought Alok back to the table and clinch the frame and match. Not only has he progressed to the semi finals, he has also booked his place in the world snooker championship and world team championship to be held in Egypt and Malta respectively.
Former Asian gold medalist Rafath Habib of bt former national champion Shyam Jagtiani 3-1 and booked his place in the world snooker championship and world team championship. Rafath faced a tough fight from Shyam as he had to sweat for the winning points.
In another quarterfinal match, Chirag Ramakrishnan of Maharashtra bt Joy Mehra of Punjab 3-0 and cruised to the semi finals comfortably. Chirag also sealed his spot in the world snooker championship and world team championship.
Manu Dev of Karnataka dominated his quarter final match as he defeated D Bhuvaneswaran 3-0 to make it to the semi finals. Dev after surviving a scare from his stateman L Nagaraj in the pre quarter, Dev made sure he doesn’t miss out on the chance to represent India in the world event.
In the semi finals, Alok Kumar faces off against Chirag Ramakrishnan and Rafath Habib faces off against Manu Dev.
